The Modern Republic, a well-respected vintage furniture retailer in Philadelphia, had built a strong reputation but faced a common challenge for independent retail businesses: increasing consistent foot traffic to its brick-and-mortar location while introducing the business to new audiences.
Rather than relying solely on traditional marketing, there was an opportunity to transform the space into a recurring cultural destination that extended beyond retail.
Opportunity
Create a highly curated monthly marketplace that brought together vintage dealers, artists, designers, fashion vendors, and collectors under one roof—positioning The Modern Republic as the anchor of a larger design community while encouraging visitors to explore the showroom and surrounding neighborhood.
Strategy
In partnership with The Modern Republic, I developed the Vintage Design Market, responsible for the event concept, branding, visual identity, creative direction, vendor curation, marketing strategy, and overall experience design.
The marketplace was intentionally designed to feel more like a cultural gathering than a traditional flea market, creating an environment where visitors could discover thoughtfully curated vintage furniture, fashion, housewares, books, art, and collectibles.
Impact
Generated more than 1,300 attendees over a single winter weekend.
Vendors collectively reported more than $40,000 in sales.
Increased visibility and foot traffic for The Modern Republic’s brick-and-mortar showroom.
Established a recurring monthly destination that continues to strengthen Philadelphia’s vintage and design community.
Expanded into a multi-floor indoor/outdoor experience as demand grew.
