RUMPH CLASSIC

BRAND STRATEGY, SOCIAL MEDIA , CONTENT CREATION

Challenge

The Rumph Classic was one of Philadelphia’s premier summer basketball tournaments, known locally for showcasing elite talent. The opportunity was to expand its reach beyond neighborhood basketball fans and position the tournament as a must-attend event for players, scouts, media, and basketball enthusiasts across the region.

Approach

As Lead Graphic Designer and Photographer, I developed the tournament’s visual identity through promotional graphics, game photography, and post-game statistical recaps. Having grown up immersed in Philadelphia’s basketball culture, I understood that the tournament’s biggest draw wasn’t simply the games—it was the rivalries.

I strategically highlighted marquee matchups featuring future NBA players and local legends, including Sean Singletary vs. Kyle Lowry and Mark Tyndale vs. Marty Collins, framing each game as a story rather than just another tournament matchup. This approach generated anticipation and attracted a broader audience of basketball enthusiasts.

To further expand the tournament’s reach, I conceived and produced the Promoters Game, inviting influential figures from Philadelphia’s music, nightlife, and other creative communities to participate. The initiative introduced the Rumph Classic to entirely new audiences while strengthening its connection to the city’s broader cultural landscape.

Impact

Through strategic storytelling, visual branding, and community engagement, the Rumph Classic evolved from a respected neighborhood tournament into a regional basketball destination, attracting larger crowds, expanding its cultural relevance, and helping move marquee games from local recreation centers into larger college arenas.
